History
Our school was originally known as St Anne’s, opening in 1914 and operated under the direction of the Sisters of Mercy for nearly 68 years until 1983.
The school was renamed St Maria’s Goretti’s Catholic School in 1956. In May 2016, we celebrated our 60th Anniversary of operation. In response to incredible growth in the local area, in 2013 we introduced a second stream in each year level.
Today St Maria Goretti’s Catholic School is a growing double stream, co-educational Catholic school catering to students from 4 Year old Kindergarten to Year 6. We currently have more than 368 students and continue to experience phenomenal growth in our student numbers.
Patron
Our school is named after St Maria Goretti, one of the youngest canonized saints in the Catholic Church. Maria was born in Italy in 1890 to a poor farming family. After the death of her father, Maria, her mother and siblings were forced to share housing with another family. While there, one of their sons attempted to assault Maria. She was taken to hospital but later died as a result of her injuries. Before her death, Maria forgave her attacker despite his actions. She was declared a saint in 1950.
Her life story is a powerful reminder of the importance of forgiveness.
School prayer
Lord of all creation, inspired by the example of St Maria Goretti, may we lead with courage, serve God faithfully and act justly always.
Let us strive for excellence in all we do.
For the glory of God.
Amen

Our Mission & Purpose
The dedicated staff of St Maria Goretti’s Catholic School are focused on helping your child reach their potential spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, physically and socially.
We strive to nurture and educate the whole child in a Catholic context.
Logo
Our logo design is a representation of the St Joseph’s Lily which is symbolic of St Maria Goretti, after whom our school is named. The shape and layered structure of the lily represent a multicultural school community that is growing, open and welcoming to all.
Our Catholic identity is central to who we are as a school community and it is for this reason the cross is depicted literally at the heart of the design.
Our motto ‘To nurture and educate’ captures our school’s primary purpose and vision.
