All parents of children enrolled at St Maria Goretti’s Catholic School are members of the Parents & Friends Association (P&F) – it’s not something you have to sign up to. Our constitution has a long list of objectives, but essentially we work to build our connection with our children and their school. We look for different ways to enable the many diverse families associated with our school to be involved and get to know each other.

It is so important to your children that you do take the opportunity to participate in the P&F, because you send your children the message that school is an important part of life and you’re committed to seeing them get the most out of it.

P&F Constitution
It’s not about fundraising! We’re about building a strong school community – we do whatever we can to enhance our kids’ education. We organise fun events such as movie nights, rollerskating, fun runs and sundowners. We conduct stalls for the kids to buy mothers’ day and fathers’ day gifts, and good old fashioned cake stalls. We buy iPads and sports tents. We communicate by email, in the carpark, and at meetings. These meetings, once a month, are the powerhouse driving all our fantastic projects to enrich our kids’ school. We share our ideas, decide as a group what direction we are going in, then go away and do it. Come along if you can, help us start planning our next event.
Last year we proudly donated $10,000 to the school towards the purchase of new iPads and Surface Pros for the classrooms. This year we’ve already committed a further $5,000 towards music resources, and look forward to working with the school board to make further donations towards our children’s education.

Last year we hosted a wonderful open-air movie night on the school oval, screening the great Australian movie “Paper Planes” and held a paper plane building and throwing contest.

We collected 61 kilograms of five cent pieces. We held a Retro Bingo night for the parents and friends of the school – without the kids! Together with the children at morning recess we filled 21 “Comfort Bags” for Constable Care to distribute to children in crisis. We held the usual cake stall, Mother’s Day stall, Father’s Day stall, Father’s Day Breakfast, movie night and school disco. In all, a busy and productive year.

In Kindy and Pre-Primary, we have class representatives:

Kindy – Natalia Vollrath-Hale, Chelsea Isaacs-Matthewson and Peta Casale would love to help you get to know the other families your child will spend the next 8 years with.

Pre-Primary – Kirsty Douglas is helping facilitate the families continuing to get to know each other.

Years 1 to 6 – this year we’re focusing on private year-based closed groups on Facebook. Only parents of children in the same year at St Maria Goretti’s are able to join these groups and view and participate in the discussions. If you’d like to join the closed group for your child’s year level, please contact the school and they will put you in touch with the P&F.

These groups provide an opportunity for parents to meet and network at whatever brief time is convenient in your busy family!
